Crannog 2 v 3 Maesglas
The exciting all Ceredigion League Emrys Morgan Cup tie between Crannog and Maesglas topped the bill over the weekend with the visitors just tipping the scales by the odd goal in five.
In an even first half a Charlie Welch goal after ten minutes was cancelled out by Llifon Howells' effort straight from a corner. Similarly after the turnaround Leigh Davies put Crannog back in front before matters were again evened out as Steve James headed home from a left sided cross.
Both teams then had their moments before Maesglas settled the tie when Dominic Williams hammered a free kick from the edge of the penalty box into the far corner of the net.
In the same competition Cardigan bowed out by a single goal against Montgomery who, on the balance of play just deserved their place in the last eight. On a very heavy pitch clear cut chances were at a premium but the crucial goal came five minutes into the second half when Tony Meredith ran on to turn in a cross from close range.
In the second round of the League Cup there were wins for St Dogmaels and Aberaeron.
The Saints totally demolished SDUC with a dozen goals. Johnny James led the way with four, there were two each for Sam Orme and Slovak Walaczek and a goal apiece for Aled Rees, Leigh Burrows, Lee Ladd and Ioan Owen.
Matters were much tighter at Troedyrhiw Park as Aberaeron grabbed a last minute winner against Ffostrasol. In a match that did not reach any great heights Steffan Gruffudd gave the visitors a twenty eighth minute lead from a free kick.
They comfortably held their advantage until four minutes from time when following a good run down the left Mathew Stapleton equalised with a low shot past keeper Barry Edwards.
Extra time beckoned but Aberaeron grabbed a last gasp winner as James Hemming popped up in the area to take the holders into the quarter finals.
In the First Division New Quay had a field day as they put eleven past Llanybydder. Bryn Evans opened their account with a hat-trick inside the first twenty minutes, there were a couple each for Lee Perkins and Jamie Thompson and one apiece for Sean McQuinn, Charlie Dent, Luke Lovell and David Evans.
In the basement battle Llandysul just had the edge on Aberporth with their solitary goal coming in the second half when from a good run down the left by Rhodri Jones his cross was netted at the far post by Simon Davies.
In the other game played Lampeter and Dewi Stars shared the spoils. |
